This dive site, known as Fiona, is a fascinating twin-wreck experience located off the coast of Grenada. Sunk purposely to create an artificial reef, it consists of two distinct vessels: The Barge, resting at a depth of 21 meters (70 feet), and the Fiona, a fishing boat positioned at approximately 17 meters (50 feet) on a sandy bottom. Divers can easily navigate between these two structures, exploring their various features and the surrounding substrate.
The wrecks and their sandy surroundings teem with diverse marine life. Fiona is home to numerous Grunts and Angelfish, while schools of Squid and Schoolmasters often congregate around The Barge. Beyond the typical reef inhabitants, the sandy areas are a treasure trove for macro enthusiasts, often revealing unusual critters, including the rare Planehead Filefish. Seahorses and Frogfish are regularly spotted, making this site a reliable spot for unique encounters.
The best time to visit Fiona is during Grenada's dry season, typically from January to May, when calmer waters and excellent visibility enhance the diving experience. This site is highly recommended for macro photography due to its abundant small critters. With a maximum stated depth of 19 meters (for the overall site, though one wreck is deeper), and an average depth of around 9 meters (likely including surrounding areas), it's suitable for divers of all experience levels. Freedivers will also find the wreck depths appealing for exploration.
