About this dive site
This dive site, Kohanee, is located in Grenada, just before the open Atlantic Ocean. It's characterized by a narrow reef top with a significant depth variation, ranging from 10 to 30 meters (30 to 100 feet). This makes for interesting navigation as you'll explore the various depths and underwater formations, potentially including small swim-throughs within the reef structure. There is no known history related specifically to the name, but its location and rich biodiversity highlight its importance within the Grenada reef system.
The marine life at Kohanee is exceptionally diverse. You can expect to see a wide variety of fish, including schooling species drawn in by the currents, larger predatory fish that hunt them, and smaller reef fish. The abundance of large elephant ear and barrel sponges, gorgonians, and sea plumes provides ample habitat for invertebrates and smaller fish, making it a rewarding site for both macro and wide-angle photography.
The best time to visit Kohanee is during the calmer months, generally between December and April, for improved visibility and calmer seas. However, some current is typically present, so divers should have intermediate experience. Freediving is not recommended at this location due to the depth and current. Divers should be aware of the potential for strong currents and always check weather conditions and current forecasts before diving.
