About this dive site

This dive site, known as Rum Runner, is a fascinating wreck in Grenada, discovered by chance when divers drifted over it on ascent after another dive, spotting it at approximately 31 meters. Its true identity remains unknown, though its style resembles local “Rhum Runner” party boats from St. Georges. Due to its depth and infrequent visitation, it remains largely untouched, offering a unique exploration experience for divers seeking mystery.

The infrequent diving activity at Rum Runner has resulted in a thriving and less timid marine ecosystem. Divers can expect to encounter various tropical reef fish, crustaceans, and potentially larger pelagic species that feel secure in this less disturbed environment. The wreck itself provides a habitat for a diverse array of corals and invertebrates, slowly transforming into an artificial reef.

The best time to visit Grenada for diving is generally during the dry season, from January to May, offering calmer seas and excellent visibility. Rum Runner is a highlight for advanced divers who appreciate remote wreck diving and interacting with unperturbed marine life. While challenging for freedivers due to the wreck's depth, experienced individuals may find it rewarding, especially when exploring the shallower sections and the nearby reef.
