This dive site, Sherwood Forest, is a deepwater ridge situated outside of “Bass Reef” off the coast of Grenada. The ridge itself begins at approximately 17 meters (50 feet) and descends to a maximum depth of 48 meters (150 feet) on its outer edge, though the typical dive profile for this analysis focuses on up to 27 meters. Divers can explore the fascinating topography of the ridge and discover old anchors embedded in the reef, remnants from a historical French naval retreat where they cut their lines to escape an English attack near Moliniere Point.
The site is teeming with marine life, offering regular sightings of various Grouper species throughout the year. It's a prime location for encountering deepwater pelagics cruising off the reef. Mid-year presents an excellent opportunity to spot majestic Eagle Rays, while the site is also renowned for being a favourite habitat for the rare and beautiful Simnias.
The best time to visit Sherwood Forest for a chance to see Eagle Rays is typically in the middle of the year. Due to the depths and potential currents, this site is best suited for experienced divers and freedivers capable of handling deeper profiles. Its rich history and diverse marine life, particularly the pelagic encounters and unique Simnia sightings, make it a rewarding dive for those seeking adventure and unique underwater exploration.
