This dive site, known as The Blade, is a prominent reef formation in Grenada. It consists of a narrow ridge of reef starting near the shore, with its top at approximately 8 meters. From this shallower plateau, the reef drops off dramatically, forming sheer walls on both sides that plunge to around 35 meters and then continues as a large horseshoe slope descending beyond 50 meters. Divers typically navigate along these dramatic walls, exploring the varied topography that makes this site unique.
The diverse environment of The Blade supports a rich array of marine life. Due to its proximity to deep water, divers have a good chance of encountering pelagic species such as rainbow runners and mackerel. Among the rocky crevices and coral formations, macro enthusiasts can spot intriguing creatures like pipefish, seahorses, and frogfish.
The best time to visit The Blade aligns with Grenada's dry season, typically from January to May, offering calmer seas and optimal visibility. This site is excellent for both scuba divers and freedivers, with shallower reef areas suitable for breath-hold exploration and deeper sections for advanced scuba diving. Divers should be prepared for potential currents due to the site's exposed nature and dramatic drop-offs, ensuring good buoyancy control is essential.
