About this dive site

This dive site, Seraya Secrets, is a macro photographer’s dream—a black-sand "muck diving" paradise just east of Tulamben, where tiny, rare critters thrive amid seemingly barren terrain. Spanning depths of 3–35 meters, the site comprises three distinct areas: Top Secrets, Deep Secrets, and Noisy Secrets (named for the chattering juvenile triggerfish).

While the sandy slope appears sparse at first glance, closer inspection reveals an extraordinary microcosm of life. The elusive harlequin shrimp, vibrantly colored nudibranchs (including "donut" and "Pikachu" varieties), boxer crabs, frogfish, and pygmy seahorses are just a few highlights. Blue-spotted stingrays bury themselves in the sand, while mimic octopuses and bustling cleaning stations—where shrimp service moray eels and groupers—add to the spectacle.

Due to the silty bottom, strong buoyancy control is essential to avoid disturbing the habitat. Night dives unveil even more hidden wonders, making Seraya Secrets a site worth revisiting.
