About this dive site

This dive site, known as Mérouville, or 'sec du Pelu', is located off the coast of Italy and is renowned for its large population of groupers. The site consists of three rocky outcrops rising from a 30-meter seabed, the highest reaching 17 meters. Navigation is relatively straightforward, focusing on exploring the rocky structures and observing the groupers. The site's fame comes from the numerous groupers that inhabit this area, making it a popular destination for experienced divers.

Marine life is dominated by the large groupers, which are quite accustomed to divers. While the description emphasizes groupers, other fish species and potentially some invertebrates are likely present, though the focus is firmly on the large fish. The rocky formations themselves provide a habitat for various smaller organisms but the site is not known for its macro life diversity.

The best time to visit Mérouville is likely during the warmer months (summer and early autumn) when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is typically better. Due to the depth and potential for currents, this dive site is exclusively for experienced divers with appropriate training and equipment. Freediving is not recommended due to the depth.
