About this dive site
This dive site, Secca delle Stelle, is located off the Ligurian coast of Italy. It's characterized by a relatively shallow and manageable dive profile, making it ideal for novice divers. The seabed is a gently sloping area with a prominent rock pyramid covered in vibrant Parazoanthus, creating a striking underwater landscape. Navigation is straightforward, with the pyramid serving as a clear focal point.
Marine life is abundant and varied. The rock formations and seabed teem with sponges, bryozoans, and starfish, the latter giving the site its name (Star Shoal). Numerous octopuses, moray eels, and conger eels are commonly sighted. Divers can also expect encounters with larger species, including sunfish and amberjacks. The variety and density of marine life make this a highly rewarding dive.
The best time to visit Secca delle Stelle is during the warmer months, from spring to autumn, when the water temperature is pleasant and visibility is generally at its best. For both divers and freedivers, the shallow depth, gentle slopes and easy navigation make it an excellent spot. Good buoyancy control is always recommended to avoid damaging the delicate sea life.
