This dive site, known as Buddha Coral or Daibutsu Coral, is located near Amami Oshima, Japan. It is famous for a colossal common coral formation, measuring 20 meters in diameter and 7 meters high, which strikingly resembles the head of a giant Buddha, inspiring its name. Divers typically navigate around this magnificent coral structure, which is the main attraction and easy to locate. Access is by a 15-minute boat ride.
The surrounding area features white sandy soil where a variety of marine life thrives. Divers can expect to see colorful flounder, butterflyfish, snappers, lionfish, scorpionfish, spotted angelfish, and yellow-eyed clams. The sandy areas are home to fine-tailed dingbats and garden eels, adding to the diversity of smaller creatures.
