About this dive site

This dive site, Dragon Lady, is situated off Zamami Island within the picturesque Kerama Islands of Japan. It is particularly popular during the cooler months from October to April when north winds are strong, as its location offers shelter. Characterized by a gentle, expansive sandy slope, it is considered a very beginner-friendly point, allowing for easy navigation. No specific history or special story is provided. While encounters with large marine life like sea turtles and vibrant corals are infrequent, the site boasts an abundance of captivating smaller creatures. Divers can expect to find garden eels swaying in the sand, various damselfish including chromis and yellow-tail damselfish, and schools of cardinalfish. Other notable residents include frogfish, seahorses, leaf scorpionfish, fusiliers, various anemonefish (Ocellaris, Tomato, Pink Skunk, Common), banded sea snakes, butterflyfish, and lionfish. The best time to visit Dragon Lady is from October to April, aligning with the season of stronger northerly winds, as it provides sheltered conditions. The dive site is celebrated for Kerama's famously clear visibility and its wealth of charming, "healing" marine life, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Its shallow depths and gentle nature make it ideal for both scuba divers, especially those interested in macro photography, and is also suitable for snorkelers and freedivers.
