This dive site, Overhead Rock, is located near the famous Manza Mo in Okinawa, Japan, accessible by a 15-minute boat ride from the local port. It is characterized by a dramatic drop-off, with its top reef starting at a comfortable 5 meters depth, adorned with vibrant corals. Divers can navigate along the wall, exploring both the shallow, teeming reef and the deeper sections of the drop-off, offering a diverse underwater experience.
Overhead Rock boasts a rich diversity of marine life. Divers can frequently encounter Green Sea Turtles grazing on the shallow reef. The deeper waters sometimes reveal larger pelagics such as Giant Trevally, Dogtooth Tuna, and Whitetip Reef Sharks. Macro enthusiasts will delight in spotting Pygmy Seahorses, various Nudibranchs, and the elusive Frogfish. The reef is also home to schooling fish like Anthias, Butterflyfish, Gobies, Damselfish, and intriguing creatures like Cuttlefish and Boxfish.
The site is enjoyable year-round, with Okinawa's warm waters providing good diving conditions for most of the year. Visibility is generally very good. This site offers something for everyone; snorkelers and freedivers can explore the beautiful shallow coral gardens at 5 meters, while scuba divers can descend the drop-off to observe larger marine life.
