About this dive site

This dive site, Yamada Point, is a thriving coral reef located just a 5-minute boat ride from Onna Village’s Maeganeku Port. The underwater topography features inviting sandy flats and gradual drop-offs that extend from 5 to 26 meters, though the maximum recreational depth here is 13 meters. It also incorporates successful artificial coral cultivation efforts, enhancing the reef's health and visual appeal. This site is easily navigable, making it an excellent choice for divers of all experience levels. Yamada Point is a vibrant hub of marine biodiversity. Divers can expect to encounter an abundance of colorful tropical fish dwelling among the corals. Notably, sea turtles have made the shallow areas their sleeping grounds, offering unique viewing opportunities even for snorkelers. The coral reefs themselves are home to interesting macro life, including various species of gobies and echidnas. From March onwards, divers can observe smythnids, tiny crustaceans, appearing on the backs of gobies in the sandy areas. This dive site is ideal for year-round fun diving and experience dives. The consistent conditions and shallow average depth of 6 meters make it perfectly suited for beginners, while the rich marine life keeps experienced divers engaged, particularly those interested in macro photography. Freedivers will also find the shallow, clear waters and accessible marine life, especially the sleeping sea turtles, highly rewarding.
