About this dive site

This dive site, Paraiso, meaning 'paradise' in Spanish and Portuguese, is located on the west side of Maejima in the Kerama Islands. It lives up to its name, offering a truly idyllic underwater experience. Divers navigate through beautiful coral reefs that extend from shallow areas down to deeper white sandy slopes. The site is accessible via boat, and drift diving is also a popular way to explore its diverse topography.

Paraiso boasts a rich array of marine life, making it a vibrant ecosystem. Divers can encounter larger inhabitants such as whitetip reef sharks, spotted eagle rays, and green sea turtles. The coral reefs are home to numerous smaller fish, including vibrant damselfish, various clownfish (Tomato Clownfish, Pink Skunk Clownfish, Common Anemonefish), butterflyfish, flutemouths, and Southern Tonguefish. The healthy coral formations themselves are a major highlight.

Paraiso is suitable for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced, thanks to its varied conditions and depths. The site's highlights include pristine white sand expanses and thriving coral gardens, perfect for both wide-angle and macro photography. While specific best times aren't stated, the Kerama Islands generally offer excellent diving conditions year-round, with warmer waters from spring to autumn. Freedivers will also find the shallow, clear waters and abundant marine life ideal for breath-hold exploration.
