About this dive site

This dive site, Yokohishi, located in Uruma City, Okinawa, is celebrated for hosting the largest common shikoro coral, also known as mussel coral, on Okinawa's main island. While its size has diminished over time, it remains a remarkable sight. Divers navigate a sandy passage that leads to two distinct roots adorned with impressive isobana, creating an exceptionally photogenic underwater landscape. The site's unique geological features provide a vibrant backdrop for its rich biodiversity. A wide array of marine life can be observed here, including various fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and sea turtles. Notable specific sightings include angler anglerfish, frilled shrimps, and nudibranchs. These species thrive within one of the world's largest colonies of common and blue corals, forming a complex and colorful ecosystem. To best experience Yokohishi, divers should be mindful of the currents, which can be quite strong during high tide, making it suitable for intermediate divers during these periods. The site is highly suitable for both snorkeling and freediving due to its relatively shallow average depth and abundant marine flora and fauna. The main highlights are the extensive coral formations and the striking isobana, offering fantastic opportunities for underwater photography.
