About this dive site

This dive site presents a unique opportunity to explore the wreck of a Lockheed L-1011 TriStar aircraft, located on Aqaba’s shoreline near South Beach. The plane was scuttled in August 2019 as part of a marine habitat project initiated by ASEZA. It rests at a depth ranging from 18 to 28 meters and was originally built in the 1970s as a medium-to-long range, wide-body trijet airliner with a capacity of 300 passengers. The aircraft’s dimensions – 50 meters in length and 50 meters wingspan – offer impressive visuals during the dive. It began its final journey to the seabed just before the old phosphate port, 37 years after its initial flight in August 1983. Visibility is expected to be good around the wreck.
