About this dive site

This dive site, Abaandance Faru, is named in honor of the Maldivian Marine Biologist Mohamed Abaan, who was captivated by its rich biodiversity and hidden treasures. Divers navigate along a dramatic steep wall, where several fascinating overhangs provide shelter and intrigue. These overhangs are predominantly found between 15 to 20 meters, offering intriguing structural exploration. The marine life here is abundant and diverse. Various types of sweetlips are frequently sighted, often seeking refuge within the overhangs. The reef is also known to harbor several rare species, contributing to its high biodiversity. The coral ecosystem is vibrant, with both black corals and various hard corals dominating the reef structure, creating a visually stunning backdrop. Abaandance Faru is suitable for diving year-round, with generally excellent conditions typical of the Maldives. Divers should be mindful of buoyancy when exploring the overhangs and the steep wall. While suitable for all levels, intermediate divers will particularly enjoy the deeper wall features. Snorkelers and freedivers can also enjoy the shallower reef sections and the upper parts of the wall.
