About this dive site

This dive site, Appa Thila, is a prominent large reef nestled on the inside of the atoll in the Maldives. Its west side presents a picturesque terrace adorned with a rich variety of hard and soft coral blocks, creating a vibrant underwater landscape. While some smaller overhangs can be found deeper at 30 meters, the site's most captivating features are its shallower waters, particularly above 15 meters, making it easily navigable and enjoyable for all skill levels. Appa Thila is teeming with marine life, offering divers and snorkellers a spectacle of diverse reef fishes, including large schools of fusilier. Regular sightings include majestic whitetip reef sharks and graceful hawksbill sea turtles. The reef also hosts charming oriental sweetlips and an abundance of colorful anemone fish, all thriving among the healthy coral formations. This site is exceptionally well-suited for beginners and snorkellers due to its manageable depths and generally mild currents. The beautiful shallow areas provide an excellent opportunity for extended bottom times and relaxed exploration of its rich biodiversity. While no specific best time to visit is provided, the Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with calm seas and clear waters.
