About this dive site
This dive site, Beriyan Bodu Thila (BBT), is a vibrant underwater pinnacle in the Maldives renowned for its daily changing conditions and rich biodiversity. The reef top begins at a shallow 5 meters, gradually sloping down to 8-9 meters before a more dramatic drop-off to 30 meters, though the maximum recommended dive depth for recreational diving is 22 meters. Divers can explore small overhangs in the western part of the thila, which add structural interest and provide shelter for marine life.
BBT is a thriving hub for marine life, offering encounters with both large pelagic species and fascinating macro creatures. Divers can expect to see Gray reef sharks, Nurse sharks, and various rays including Eagle rays, Hedgehog rays, Black point stingrays, and Mangrove stingrays. The reef also teems with countless dragon heads, 8-10 different types of moray eels, and an abundance of crabs and shrimp. The small overhangs are partly overgrown with colorful soft corals, enhancing the visual appeal and creating a picturesque underwater landscape.
Suitable for diving year-round due to its consistently diverse offerings, BBT provides a unique experience with each visit, often presenting new conditions and sightings. Its varied depths, from a shallow reef top ideal for beginners and freedivers to deeper sections with overhangs for more experienced divers, make it highly versatile. Freedivers will appreciate the accessible reef top and manageable maximum depth for breath-hold diving, while scuba divers can explore the full spectrum of its rich and dynamic ecosystem.
