About this dive site

This dive site, known as Grouper Cave, is a small Giri situated to the west of Medhufushi. Divers typically explore a sandy plateau found at depths of 10-14 meters, which is richly covered in various coral formations. Spectacular huge overhangs adorned with soft corals are also present, their upper reaches commencing around the 15-meter mark, though the maximum recommended depth for exploring this particular site is 15 meters, making it accessible for all levels due to its protected nature. The site is notable for its diverse marine life, particularly many different species of perch that inhabit the reef. Stingrays are frequently observed resting on the sandy bottom within the caverns and overhangs. The vibrant coral formations on the plateau and the extensive soft corals covering the overhangs provide a rich habitat for various smaller reef fish and invertebrates. Given its protected nature and suitability for all levels, Grouper Cave can be enjoyed year-round, though the dry season (December to May) often offers the best visibility in the Maldives. It is an excellent spot for photographers focusing on macro life among the corals and wide-angle shots of the beautiful soft coral overhangs. Freedivers will appreciate the shallow average depth and the opportunity to explore the colorful plateau and observe marine life close to the surface.
