About this dive site

This dive site, known as HP Reef or Rainbow Reef, is celebrated as one of the most colorful and vibrant locations in North Male Atoll, situated on the south side of Girifushi island. Divers can expect a stunning drift dive experience, navigating along a reef teeming with life and featuring numerous blue soft corals and an exciting swim-through. While there isn't extensive historical information, its vibrant ecosystem speaks for itself, making it a highly sought-after dive. The reef is home to abundant fish life, including large schools of jack, trevally, rainbow runners, barracuda, and tunas. Divers may also encounter majestic eagle rays and grey reef sharks patrolling the area. The extensive and healthy soft coral formations, particularly the distinctive blue soft corals, contribute significantly to the site's 'Rainbow Reef' moniker. Visiting during the dry season (December to May) often offers the best conditions, though marine life is present year-round. Divers should be prepared for strong currents, which can make this an exhilarating drift dive but require advanced skills and good buoyancy control. Freedivers can also enjoy the colorful reef and marine life, especially around the shallower average depth, but must exercise caution due to the variable current strength.
