Kottefaru Thila

This dive site, Kottefaru Thila, is a superb underwater pinnacle (thila) located in a canal within the Maldivian archipelago. It is characterized by numerous small overhangs that provide shelter and act as a haven for various marine creatures. Divers should always be prepared for currents due to its unique location, and navigation might focus on exploring these overhangs and the notable block to the north. The marine life at Kottefaru Thila is exceptionally rich and diverse. Encounters with rays, nurse sharks, and turtles are common sights utilizing the thila's shelters. Grey reef sharks, stingrays, and eagle rays are also frequently observed. A large school of jackfish adds to the spectacle. The thila's structure is adorned with abundant soft corals and an impressive density of anemones, creating a vibrant ecosystem. The prime time to visit Kottefaru Thila for an enhanced experience is between July and November, when there is a good chance to spot majestic Manta rays on the top reef or around the beautiful northern block. Due to the consistently strong currents, this site is recommended for divers who possess experience with such conditions or are accompanied by guides capable of managing a 'special' drift dive. Both snorkelers and freedivers can also enjoy the top reef and shallower parts.
