About this dive site

This dive site, Kuramathi Caves, offers an exciting exploration of underwater caverns and large overhangs on the western side of the Rasdhoo Atoll, near the Kuramathi Resort. Divers can navigate through two distinct swim-through caverns, one located between 18-20 meters and a deeper one typically explored by more advanced divers. The site is characterized by its unique geological formations, part of the natural reef development of the Maldives. Within the captivating caverns and under the large overhangs, divers frequently encounter white tip reef sharks, stingrays, and nurse sharks, taking shelter or resting. The top of the reef, at a shallower 5-meter depth, boasts an abundance of very healthy coral, supporting a vibrant ecosystem of reef fish, invertebrates, and smaller marine creatures. The Kuramathi Caves offer rewarding diving experiences year-round, with generally excellent visibility typical of the Maldives. The shallow reef section is perfect for snorkelers and beginner divers, while the caverns appeal to more experienced divers and freedivers looking to explore unique underwater structures. Divers should be mindful of buoyancy control within the caverns and potential moderate currents.
