About this dive site

This dive site, Merikafalhu, famously known as Tiger Point, offers an intense and unforgettable experience with a resident tiger shark population in the Maldives. The presence of these magnificent predators dates back centuries, drawn by discarded fish remains outside the local harbor. Today, dives are highly structured: groups descend to a specific depth, typically 10-11 meters, and settle on the seabed for up to 30 minutes. From this vantage point, divers witness tiger sharks arriving after chum is released, an organized and controlled feeding event. The primary marine life attraction here are the numerous tiger sharks. Beyond these apex predators, other large fish such as various rays, moray eels, and groupers are commonly observed, often focusing on the fish heads stacked between the rocks during the feeding. Once the main meal concludes, the tiger sharks tend to move more freely among the dive groups, offering incredible close-up photo opportunities. While tiger sharks are present year-round, conditions and shark density can vary. It is essential for divers to maintain excellent buoyancy and follow all dive master instructions due to the close proximity to large, feeding predators. This site is not suitable for snorkeling or freediving due to the nature of the structured feeding and shark interaction.
