About this dive site
This dive site, Orimas Thila, is a small coral pinnacle (thila) located on the eastern side of a Maldivian atoll. Divers can explore a vibrant top reef situated between 6 and 15 meters, which then slopes down to a sandy bottom at 30 meters. The north side of the thila is particularly interesting, featuring numerous overhangs ranging from substantial caverns to smaller fissures, offering exciting geological formations to navigate and explore.
The reef boasts vibrant marine life, both on its colorful structures and out in the blue where pelagic species might be spotted. Notably, the entire east side of the top reef is densely covered with anemones, providing a habitat for numerous clown fish, making it a highlight for macro and small reef animal enthusiasts.
Orimas Thila offers a rich experience for divers. While specific best times aren't provided, the Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with peak season typically from December to May, offering calmer seas and good visibility. It is ideal for spending time observing the intricate ecosystems of the anemone fields and exploring the unique overhangs. Good buoyancy control is recommended, especially when exploring the overhangs and fissures.
