About this dive site

This dive site, Ram Faru Thulu, comprises two submerged pinnacles (Thilas) located inside a Maldivian atoll. Divers can explore many impressive overhangs, particularly at the north and south-east corners, found between depths of 10 and 20 meters. The site is characterized by numerous coral blocks and sponges, providing a rich, intricate topography. While there's no specific history provided, Thilas are natural formations, often acting as biodiversity hotspots. A torch is recommended to fully appreciate the details within the overhangs and crevices. The marine life here is abundant and diverse. Frequently sighted animals include lobsters, various schooling fish, stingrays, and moray eels. Lucky divers may also encounter the elusive ghost pipefish and turtles. The site is a known habitat for white tip sharks, adding to the thrill. The coral blocks and sponges form a vibrant underwater garden, supporting a wide array of smaller reef inhabitants and offering excellent macro opportunities. The Maldives generally offers excellent diving conditions year-round, with specific seasons varying for pelagic encounters. This site is best visited during times of stable weather for optimal visibility and current conditions. Freedivers will find the 20-meter maximum depth and rich shallow areas highly suitable. For scuba divers, exploring the overhangs with a torch is a highlight. Being a Thila, mild to moderate currents can be expected, which are often responsible for attracting schooling fish and larger predators.
