About this dive site

This dive site, Rasgefanno, was historically the island's bustling harbor before its transformation into a captivating underwater sanctuary. Divers navigate along dramatic steep walls, plunging from 5 to 20 meters, which serve as a magnificent backdrop to the vibrant marine ecosystem. Beyond these impressive vertical structures, the site transitions into a more gradual slope, offering varied topography for exploration. The waters of Rasgefanno are teeming with diverse marine life. Divers can expect to encounter large schools of batfish and fusiliers gracefully navigating the currents. The site is also home to various anemones, providing shelter for numerous smaller creatures. Keep an eye out for lobsters hiding in crevices, and if fortunate, one might witness the majestic presence of cruising Thresher sharks, often associated with a cleaning station found slightly deeper around 35 meters. The best time to visit Rasgefanno for the opportunity to see Thresher sharks is generally during periods of upwelling, which can vary. For freedivers, the walls provide an excellent challenge and opportunities for deep dives along the dramatic topography, while the shallower sections are perfect for observing schooling fish. Scuba divers should be prepared for potential moderate currents, especially along the walls, to fully enjoy the rich biodiversity and unique landscape of this historic site.
