About this dive site

This dive site, known as Sharks Tongue, is located east of Mulah Island in the Maldives. It's a challenging yet rewarding dive, characterized by strong and variable currents that demand proficient diving skills. The primary draw is a magnificent reef slope, lying between 15 and 25 meters, famously dubbed a 'shark dormitory' due to its frequent visitors. Navigation typically involves a drift dive along this vibrant slope, exploring its coral formations. Divers at Sharks Tongue can expect an exceptional display of marine fauna. With incoming currents, the site becomes a hotspot for grey reef sharks and silvertips, while black and whitetip reef sharks gracefully patrol among the numerous coral blocks. Beyond the sharks, the site teems with life, including turtles and dense shoals of surgeonfish, oriental sweetlips, fusiliers, and copper snappers, all contributing to a rich underwater spectacle. The best time to experience the highlights of Sharks Tongue is during incoming currents, which amplify the pelagic activity and bring in the larger marine species. Due to the tricky and strong currents, this site is highly recommended for advanced divers only, those comfortable with drift diving and possessing excellent buoyancy control. It is generally not suitable for snorkeling or freediving given its depth, currents, and the nature of the primary attractions.
