About this dive site
This dive site, Sirru Faru Dhekunu Kang, is located a short 5-minute boat ride southwest of a nearby island in the Maldives. The site is characterized by a top reef starting at 5 meters, featuring coral blocks down to about 20 meters. While the officially stated maximum depth for the site is 19 meters, its primary attractions, long overhangs filled with beautiful gorgonians, are found at deeper ranges of 25 to 30 meters, making it a spot for experienced divers comfortable with managing deeper profiles.
Divers can expect to encounter sleeping nurse sharks and stingrays within the impressive overhangs. The reef between 5 and 20 meters is adorned with various coral blocks, providing a vibrant habitat for diverse fish species. The beautiful gorgonians found in the deeper overhangs are a significant draw for wide-angle and macro photography enthusiasts.
The Maldives generally offers excellent diving year-round, with specific seasons potentially enhancing sightings of certain marine life. Due to the main attractions lying at 25-30 meters, this site is best suited for advanced divers. However, the shallower top reef down to 20 meters, with its coral blocks, also offers pleasant diving for intermediate divers and is suitable for freedivers and snorkelers who can enjoy the vibrant shallow reef.
