About this dive site

This dive site, Wall Reef, is located 15 minutes north-east of Joy Island in the Maldives. It offers a diverse underwater experience with a distinct wall on the western side that begins at a shallow 2 meters and drops to a depth of 25 meters, although the recommended maximum dive depth for this site is 20 meters. The eastern section presents a gentler slope adorned with numerous coral blocks, providing an interesting contrast. The wall itself is richly textured, covered extensively in sponges and various leaf plate corals, and features numerous cracks and small caves that divers can explore for hidden marine life. There is no specific history or story provided for this site, suggesting its primary appeal lies in its natural topography and biodiversity. The vibrant wall and coral blocks are home to a remarkable array of macro life. Divers can expect to discover a variety of nudibranchs tucked into crevices, alongside numerous species of crabs, lobsters, and different kinds of shrimp. The corals themselves, including sponges and leaf plate corals, form a thriving ecosystem supporting a myriad of smaller reef fish and invertebrates, creating a rich tapestry of marine flora and fauna. The Maldives generally boasts excellent diving conditions year-round, with the best visibility often occurring between December and May when the waters are calmer. Wall Reef, with its shallow top reef and moderate depths, is ideal for both scuba divers of all levels and freedivers. Freedivers will particularly enjoy exploring the 2-meter top reef and the upper sections of the wall. Photographers, especially those interested in macro subjects, will find an abundance of subjects in the cracks, caves, and along the coral-covered wall. It's advisable to check local conditions for currents, as wall dives can sometimes experience varying water movements.
