About this dive site
This dive site presents the HMS Southwold, a fascinating World War II British destroyer wreck located in Maltese waters. The ship sank in 1942 after hitting a minefield off Marsaskala, on the south coast of Malta, approximately 2.5 kilometers from shore. The wreck rests on a sandy seabed and is divided into two distinct sections: a broken bow, extending around 40 meters and sitting at a depth of 68 meters, and a stern measuring roughly 28 meters in length, positioned at 73 meters. The stern lies upright. This wreck offers a compelling dive for experienced divers only, as it requires technical diving skills to explore due to its depth and the need to navigate potentially challenging conditions. Access is by boat only. The site’s coordinates are 35.8720°N 14.5979°E. Average maximum depth reached during dives is 67 meters, with a maximum depth of 73 meters.
