About this dive site
This dive site presents a unique opportunity to explore two fascinating underwater attractions near Qawra, Malta. The Imperial Eagle, a former ferry boat that served between Malta and Gozo, was intentionally scuttled in July 1999 within a Marine Conservation Area approximately half a kilometer off Qawra Point. This creates an accessible wreck for divers at a depth of 32 meters, offering the chance to navigate through its easily penetrable decks. The vessel measures 45 meters in length and 9.2 meters in beam. Nearby, situated around 30 meters from the bow of the Imperial Eagle, is Kristu tal-Bahhara—a striking underwater statue depicting Jesus Christ. This statue, originally sunk near St. Paul’s Islands in May 1990, was subsequently raised and relocated to Qawra in May 2000, becoming an integral part of this dive area. The statue stands approximately 3 meters tall. Visibility is expected to be good at these depths. While specific marine life hasn't been reported as a primary focus of the site, the surrounding reef habitat likely supports various fish species.
