About this dive site
This dive site presents the Lockhead P2V Neptune, a crashed U.S. Navy plane, as an intriguing wreck located off the northeast coast of Malta. The aircraft was scuttled in the late 1950s for use in a movie scene and subsequently rediscovered in 2015. It lies at approximately 30 meters depth with much of the fuselage remaining, although significant portions have been lost, including wings and engine covers. Some wing pieces are partially buried in the sand. The Neptune was originally designed for submarine hunting and marine patrol, measuring around 30m (wingspan) and 24m in length. It met its end on January 13, 1956, at Malta International Airport due to a collapsed undercarriage. The wreck is part of a series of similar plane wrecks in the area, including the Bristol Beaufighter, Blenheim Bomber, and Mosquito Fighter Bomber, which are found at depths ranging from 28 to 42 meters. This dive offers an opportunity to explore a piece of aviation history. Access is by boat only. The location coordinates are 35.9423°N 14.4764°E.
