About this dive site

This dive site is located off the coast of Malta and features a statue of the Madonna in a small cave at 18 meters. The statue was placed there by the Amphibians Diving Club in 1987, with a commemorative plaque added in 2007. The dive involves navigating a reef wall to reach the statue, which is a focal point of the dive. The site is generally considered a manageable dive for intermediate divers, given the depth and the need to navigate the cave carefully.

Marine life at the Madonna site is diverse and abundant. Divers can expect to see a variety of Mediterranean reef fish, including Mediterranean sea bream, stingrays, moray eels, grouper, common octopus, cuttlefish, red starfish, and damselfish. The reef itself provides habitat for numerous smaller creatures as well.

The best time to visit this dive site is during the warmer months, from May to October, when the water temperature is at its most comfortable and visibility is typically good. Experienced divers may find the cave to be a challenging yet rewarding aspect, while freediving is generally not recommended due to the depth. It's important to check weather and current conditions before diving and to maintain a safe diving practice, especially given the cave environment.
