About this dive site

This dive site presents the Mosquito Fighter Bomber, a De Havilland Mosquito aircraft that tragically crashed into the sea in 1949. This wreck is one of three known airplane sites around Malta and lies approximately 500 meters off Dellimara Point on the east coast of the island. The plane, primarily constructed from wood with an aluminum tail section, rests at a maximum depth of 42 meters on a sandy seabed amidst some nearby reefs. The wreck’s starboard engine experienced issues during a mail run, leading to its fatal descent into the sea. What remains is a largely intact metal frame, featuring numerous cables, and surprisingly, the two engines are still present. The tail section is significantly buried in the sand. Pieces of metal from the wreckage are scattered around the site. Experienced divers are required due to the occasional strong currents. This dive offers a unique glimpse into wartime aviation history, but caution should be exercised.
