This dive site, Sortebill, is known for the wreck of Captain Sortebill's ship in the outer marina of Drøbak, Norway. Divers begin their descent at the southern pier's corner, following a line that gradually leads from 10 meters to a "break" at 19 meters. From there, the line continues in open water directly to the wreck, situated at a maximum depth of 30 meters. The wreck, measuring 15.5 meters long and 4.5 meters wide, is a popular local attraction, reportedly home to the mythical 'Captain and his wife' figures.
The wreck is well overgrown, providing habitat for many small fish. Divers also have the exciting opportunity to encounter the elusive king crab here, along with other temperate marine species attracted to the artificial reef structure. The overgrowth suggests a good variety of smaller invertebrates and sessile life.
This dive site offers a unique wreck diving experience, accessible from shore. The guided line makes navigation straightforward, especially for those less familiar with the site. The presence of a king crab is a highlight, but requires luck to spot. While suitable for intermediate divers comfortable with depth and colder water, freedivers can also enjoy the shallower parts of the descent line. Visibility can vary, so local conditions should be checked before diving.
