This dive site, Vinsjen, is located just outside a course platform in Norway, descending to a maximum depth of 37 meters. Divers navigate to the winch by first finding a barge, then following an anonymous line 51 meters out from a drop-off at approximately 36 meters deep. The winch itself is a point of interest, likely an old piece of equipment, acting as an artificial reef in the cold waters of the Oslofjord.
The dive site is particularly known for its macro life. Divers have a good chance to encounter troll crabs, which thrive in these deeper, colder conditions. During winter months, the lower temperatures here support a significantly greater variety of marine creatures compared to the shallower areas, making it a seasonal hotspot for invertebrates and unique cold-water species.
For divers, the best time to visit Vinsjen is during winter when the biological activity is heightened, offering more creatures to observe. Given the depth and cold water, proper cold-water diving equipment and experience are essential. Advanced navigation skills are also required to successfully locate the winch along the anonymous line. Due to the depth of the main attractions and cold water, this site is not suitable for snorkeling or general freediving.
