This dive site, Cathedral Wall, is a renowned wall dive located on the north side of Balicasag Island. It is typically explored as a drift dive, starting at a feature known as 'Cathedral' and proceeding either east or west, guided by the prevailing currents. The site offers a dynamic underwater experience, with divers navigating along the impressive vertical wall. No specific historical details are widely known, but it's a staple dive in the Balicasag marine sanctuary.
The marine life at Cathedral Wall is diverse and abundant. Divers can consistently encounter numerous turtles gracefully navigating the reef. The wall itself is a haven for macro enthusiasts, hosting various frogfish and colorful nudibranchs. Occasionally, schools of jackfish (trevallies) can be seen swirling in the blue, adding an exciting wide-angle spectacle. The entire wall is vibrantly covered with large sea fans and other soft corals.
The best time to visit Cathedral Wall, like much of the Philippines, is during the dry season from November to May for optimal conditions and visibility. Divers should be comfortable with drift diving due to the variable currents. For freedivers, the average depth of 10 meters with a maximum of 21 meters makes it an excellent site to explore the wall and observe marine life on a single breath, especially the shallower sections of the wall.
