This dive site features the Habagat wreck, a yacht that tragically sank due to heavy rains during the Habagat season. Located a short speedboat ride from Alona Beach, the wreck rests on a sandy bottom at depths between 30 and 34 meters. Divers can explore its structure, including a distinctive wheelhouse on the second floor, which offers excellent photo opportunities. Due to its depth, careful attention to no-decompression limits is advised for a safe and enjoyable dive.
The Habagat wreck is a vibrant artificial reef, particularly known for being teeming with cardinal fish, which shelter within its structure. Beyond cardinal fish, the wreck likely hosts a variety of other reef fish, small invertebrates, and soft corals that have begun to colonize its surfaces, creating a rich ecosystem.
The best time to visit this dive site, and the Philippines in general, is typically during the dry season from November to May for optimal conditions, though it can be dived year-round when weather permits. Divers are strongly recommended to bring an underwater light to fully appreciate the details inside the wreck and to capture its beauty in photographs. This site is primarily for scuba diving and not suitable for snorkeling.
