About this dive site

This dive site is located next to Matosinhos Beach, sheltered by the south pier of the port of Leixões. It's a relatively straightforward dive, consisting mainly of a sandy bottom interspersed with rocky areas near the pier. Navigation is easy, simply following the pier structure and exploring the surrounding rocks. There is no known historical significance to this particular dive site, it's primarily valued for its accessible location and diverse marine life within a relatively calm environment.

The marine life here is characterized by its abundance of smaller creatures. Divers can expect to encounter various species of small fish, including pout and rockfish, as well as octopus and a wealth of crustaceans. Velvet crabs are particularly common. While larger species may occasionally be present, they are less frequent.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (May to October) when water temperatures are more pleasant and visibility is usually better. However, conditions can change unexpectedly, so it's always recommended to check the weather and sea conditions before diving. This is an ideal site for beginners, snorkelers, and freedivers due to the shallow, calm conditions; however, always remember to check the tide times for optimal exploration.
