This dive site features the scattered wreckage of the cruise ship Ruy Barbosa, which was stranded off Memory Beach, southeast of the old town of Matosinhos. While the surrounding seabed varies between 9 and 15 meters, the explorable wreckage itself offers a maximum depth of 7 meters, making it a very shallow dive. Divers can navigate by exploring the scattered debris resting on a mixed background of rock and sand, uncovering the remains of this historical vessel.
Marine life observed here includes various fish species such as wrasse, pout, sea bream, and sea bass. Octopus and congers are also present, often found hiding within the wreck's structure. Additionally, divers can spot a good variety of crustaceans, adding to the site's appeal for macro photography.
As no specific 'best time' is provided, diving can likely be enjoyed throughout the warmer months when conditions are typically calmer. Its shallow depths make it excellent for extended bottom times and ideal for dive training and introducing new divers to wreck exploration. Both snorkelers and freedivers will find this site highly suitable due to its easy accessibility from shore and the interesting marine life in shallow waters.
