About this dive site

This dive site is the Oliveira e Carmo, one of four Portuguese Navy ships sunk to create the Ocean Revival underwater park off the Algarve coast. The wreck lies at a maximum depth of 28 meters, offering a complex structure for exploration. Divers can navigate through the interior of the ship, encountering various compartments and spaces, requiring careful navigation and buoyancy control. The wreck itself provides a unique and captivating underwater landscape.

The marine life surrounding the Oliveira e Carmo is abundant and diverse. Conger eels, sea bream, and golden bream are commonly sighted, along with numerous other fish species attracted to the artificial reef. The ship's structure provides habitat for a variety of invertebrates and smaller organisms, making it ideal for both macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit is during the warmer months (spring and summer), when visibility is generally better and the water temperature is more comfortable. Stronger currents may be present, so divers should be prepared for varying conditions and have adequate experience with wreck penetration. Freediving is not recommended due to the depth and potential currents.
