About this dive site

This dive site, known as Tubos, is located about a mile southwest of the GUIA laboratory in Portugal. It features a unique underwater landscape centered around a concrete structure and two large tubes, all colonized by vibrant marine life. The site is characterized by its relatively deep starting point and requires careful navigation due to the unusual structures, requiring the use of a dive compass and appropriate dive planning. There is no known historical information about the origin of the concrete structure.

The marine life at Tubos is abundant and diverse. Divers can expect to encounter schools of pout, a large conger eel, and numerous octopuses. The site is also notable for its impressive forest of gorgonians in various colors, adding to the visual spectacle of the dive. A variety of smaller fish and invertebrates likely inhabit the tubes and the surrounding area.

The best time to visit Tubos is likely during the warmer months (spring and summer) when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is typically better. Due to the depth and the presence of a conger eel, this site is recommended for experienced scuba divers only. Freedivers should avoid this site due to the depth requirement. Divers should always be aware of their surroundings, including their air supply, and maintain a safe distance from the conger eel.
