This dive site, located south of Malathu Island, offers a dramatic underwater landscape characterized by a series of deep plateaus and severe declines. Divers navigate a primary plateau at 25 meters, leading to a 25-meter-long decline to 35 meters. Further exploration reveals another plateau at 45 meters, extending to 60 meters, with pronounced drops on both sides, creating a challenging and rewarding multi-level dive.
The deep regions of Malathu Island are home to impressive gorgonian sea fans, adding vibrant color to the deep reefs. Divers frequently encounter silky sharks, alongside the usual rich collection of soft and hard corals and a diverse array of associated reef fish that inhabit the various plateaus and walls.
The best time to visit the Red Sea for diving is generally from April to June and September to November, offering excellent conditions. Malathu Island is particularly suited for advanced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and potential currents. Freedivers will find the multi-level topography and deeper plateaus appealing for breath-hold training and exploration.
