About this dive site

This dive site, known as the Marble Wreck (حطام الرخام), is a relatively shallow wreck located off the coast of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It's reported to have sunk in 1979 and was used to transport marble, hence its name. The wreck rests at a depth ranging from 8 to 16 meters, making it easily accessible to even novice divers. Navigation is straightforward, with the main structure of the ship relatively intact, allowing for easy exploration. The site is easily reached by a short boat trip from Jeddah's coast.

Marine life at the Marble Wreck is diverse, though not overwhelmingly abundant. Lionfish are a common sight, often found near a coral-encrusted staircase at the rear of the wreck. Oysters and Acropora corals decorate the masts, providing habitat for various smaller fish and invertebrates. Other fish species and coral types will vary depending on the season and current marine conditions.

The best time to visit is likely during the cooler months (October to May), when water visibility is generally better and the sea is calmer. For freedivers, the shallow depth and relatively calm conditions make this an ideal location for shorter dives. Divers should be mindful of potential currents and marine life, and should maintain a safe distance from the lionfish. Remember to practice responsible diving techniques to protect this fascinating underwater site.
