About this dive site

This dive site is located in the Southern part of Protea Banks, offering a relatively easier diving experience compared to its northern counterpart. The average depth here is approximately 20 meters, with potential depths reaching around 32 meters. Dive sessions typically last for about 45 minutes. To ensure safety and enjoyment, divers are recommended to be Advanced level, possessing at least 35 dives under their belt, and ideally having recently logged diving experience. Protea Banks is particularly renowned for its incredible marine life encounters. During the months of October through February, large schools of Scalloped Hammerheads migrate through the area, sometimes numbering in the hundreds. You might also spot Zambezi (Bull) sharks, Blacktip reef sharks, and occasionally Giant Guitar sharks – especially during summer months at Sand Shark Gulley. Tiger sharks are present from February to May, while Black Ribbon Tail rays frequently inhabit the southern section of the bank. Baited dives are a popular option in this area, providing close-up opportunities for shark observation, and it's an excellent location for photographers seeking stunning underwater images.
