About this dive site

This dive site is Bahia Alcalá, a bay located 6 km south of Los Gigantes on the west coast of Tenerife, Spain. It's a relatively shallow and sheltered bay, protected from strong winds for most of the year, making it a popular dive spot. Entry and exit are generally easy, but strong currents can sometimes make access tricky and reduce visibility. Divers should be aware of these potential conditions and plan their dive accordingly, possibly choosing alternative sites if conditions are unfavorable. The underwater topography is fairly straightforward, making navigation uncomplicated even for beginners.

The diverse marine life is a major draw for divers. Expect to see a variety of species including stingrays, snake eels, octopuses, crabs, roncadores (a type of fish), and possibly sea turtles. The seabed is likely to offer a range of habitats supporting this variety. The abundance of small and larger animals creates opportunities for macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit Bahia Alcalá is likely during the spring and autumn months when the water is clear and the currents are typically milder. Summer can bring an increase in both divers and stronger currents which might reduce visibility. Snorkelers will also find this site enjoyable, particularly during calm conditions. For freedivers, the shallow depth and generally calm waters make this an excellent location for shallower dives.
