About this dive site

This dive site, El Arenal de las Chicharras, is characterized by its shallow to moderate depths, making it suitable for intermediate divers. The dive starts near a cove ('cala'), where the boat anchors. From there, divers descend to explore the remains of ancient amphorae, which give the site its name. It is crucial to remember to admire the amphorae without touching them; photography is encouraged. The underwater topography is comprised of large rocks with cracks and holes, creating interesting crevices and swim-throughs.

The marine life at El Arenal de las Chicharras is rich and diverse. Schools of bream, two-banded seabream, damselfish, groupers (including mottled groupers), giltheads, seabream, painted combers, morays, thicklip grey mullets, and meagres are frequently observed. The diversity of fish life offers ample opportunities for both macro and wide-angle photography.

The best time to visit El Arenal de las Chicharras is during the warmer months (spring and summer) when water visibility is typically at its best and the weather is favorable for diving. For freedivers, the shallow to moderate depths offer manageable challenges. Divers should always check weather and sea conditions before embarking on the dive and maintain awareness of their limits in relation to depth and duration. Remember to practice safe diving and freediving techniques.
