About this dive site

This dive site, El Muellito, is situated in the middle area of the Salina reef, making it an excellent choice for novice divers. The dive starts at the reef's edge at approximately 7 meters and gradually descends in stages, reaching a maximum depth of 21 meters. A detached rock pin in front of the reef provides a unique element, offering shelter for various marine inhabitants. The reef itself is easily navigated, offering a gentle slope for divers of all levels to explore.

The vibrant ecosystem boasts a rich variety of marine species. Large schools of sardines patrol the edge of the reef, while parrotfish, octopus, and sepia are just a few examples of the diverse fish that make their home among the algae and plants covering the rocks. The rock pin offers a chance to see younger groupers seeking shelter among its structures.

The best time to visit El Muellito is during the warmer months, from May to October, when water temperatures are most pleasant and visibility is generally at its highest. Both scuba divers and freedivers can easily enjoy this site thanks to its gradual depth and generally calm conditions. However, divers should always check the current conditions before diving and remember to maintain appropriate buoyancy to avoid disturbing the delicate marine life.
