About this dive site

This dive site, Las Calderas, is a fascinating wreck dive featuring the remains of a steamer from the early 20th century. The ship's wreckage is scattered over a large area, resting on a rocky seabed between 10 and 23 meters. Divers can explore the remains of the hull and navigate the spaces between the ship and the seabed, discovering various parts of the ship's structure. The site is named after the three calderas (large cauldrons or boilers) that are still visible amongst the wreckage.

Marine life around Las Calderas may include various fish species common to the Mediterranean Sea. Depending on the season, you might encounter smaller fish schooling around the wreck, as well as some invertebrates residing amongst the rocks and crevices of the wreck itself. The rocky seabed might also support some types of algae and other benthic organisms.

The best time to visit is likely during the warmer months (May-October) when water temperatures are more comfortable and visibility is generally better. Divers should be aware of potential moderate currents and should have appropriate experience for this depth and the exploration of a wreck site. It is important to maintain buoyancy control to avoid damaging the fragile wreck. While freediving is not recommended, experienced scuba divers who are comfortable with navigating wrecks will enjoy this dive.
