About this dive site

This dive site, O Cabalo, is a rocky outcrop located off the coast of Bueu, Spain. It's easily accessible from the shore and offers a relatively straightforward dive suitable for beginners, particularly when conditions are calm. The depth varies significantly due to tidal changes, reaching a maximum of 16 meters, but usually staying within comfortable depths for open water divers. Navigation is simple; the main feature is the rock itself and its surrounding seabed.

Marine life is abundant, particularly small creatures. You can expect to see numerous examples of maragota (a type of invertebrate) and octopus are also frequently sighted. During the summer months, a large algae forest flourishes adding to the diverse underwater landscape. Various fish species typical of the region will also be encountered.

The best time to visit O Cabalo is during the summer months when the algae forest is at its most vibrant. However, it's crucial to check weather and tidal conditions before diving to ensure the absence of strong currents or waves, as these can drastically affect the suitability of the dive. For freediving, the shallow depths and generally calm conditions make it an excellent spot for breath-hold diving during calm weather.
